Accountability Partner Apps: 5 Options for Different Needs

Choose an accountability partner app by deciding whether you need a person to track with, a new buddy, a live work session, or a coach. DuoKeep and HabitShare work with people you already know; Supporti matches daily buddies, Focusmate pairs live sessions, and GoalsWon provides coaching. To stay on a free plan, check the options against your partner and schedule.

Choose your accountability app: daily check-ins or live sessions.

This guide is published by MYOHO Group LLC, the developer of DuoKeep. We checked the official descriptions and prices on October 8, 2026. The examples below are suggested arrangements, not customer results or a trial of every service.

Habit support or a different kind of accountability?

For habits and work, first decide what you need another person to do: see your record, exchange daily messages, work alongside you, or give feedback. The five options below cover these forms of human support.

The term “accountability app” also describes other tools. Accountable2You shares device-activity reports with invited partners. Beeminder combines graphable progress with a financial pledge that can be charged when you go off track. Check their official explanations if you need those arrangements.

If you mainly want to record habits for yourself or use a game, start with our habit tracker app comparison. A completion record, a person replying to you, and a device-activity report answer different questions.

Five accountability partner apps at a glance

Start with the kind of support you want. A friend viewing your habit record, a stranger joining a work session, and a paid coach answering your update are different arrangements. The table compares those arrangements without ranking one as the best for everyone.

Which accountability options can you use for free?

Within this shortlist, DuoKeep and HabitShare offer free habit recording with a person you bring. Focusmate offers a limited number of free matched work sessions. Choose by the person and schedule you need, rather than treating every “free” offer as the same service.

  • DuoKeep fits an existing pair with one common daily completion rule. Each person reports their own action. Its free allowance is one active goal per pair, with optional Plus. Agree on your rule and invite your person; both need the app and an internet connection to sync.
  • HabitShare fits friends with separate daily or weekly habits. Its official page describes free iOS and Android apps and selective sharing. Create your habits, add your friend, and check what they can see. Agree separately on whether either of you will reply.
  • Focusmate fits someone who needs a matched person during work. Its free plan includes three sessions a week without a credit card. Book on the web and keep your camera on during the session, as its FAQ requires. Seven daily booked sessions would exceed that free allowance.

Supporti’s standard offer is a 14-day trial, while GoalsWon offers seven days on its monthly plan or 14 on its yearly plan. These trials continue as paid subscriptions unless canceled. Supporti also lists qualifying free-access programs in its FAQ; check their conditions rather than assuming every user qualifies.

If you need an ongoing daily buddy and cannot pay, ask a willing person using our partner-finding guide. A free work session supplies company during that session; it does not establish an agreement to exchange updates every evening.

Free-access conditions and the two alternative tool descriptions were checked October 9, 2026. We did not run live sessions, apply to free-access programs, or test these services on devices.

Tracking with someone you already know

Choose DuoKeep for one daily action you both want to record. Choose HabitShare when each person needs their own habits and schedule. Both options start with a person you invite or add; they do not supply a new accountability partner.

DuoKeep: one goal, two separate reports

DuoKeep gives an existing pair a shared goal and deadline. You invite your person by code or QR code, then each of you records a completion or rest day. Its official iPhone description confirms one active goal per pair free, optional Plus, and invitations that expire after 24 hours.

For example, you might both agree to read one page of your own books each day. Your Done records your reading; it does not fill in your partner’s report. A shared-streak day requires both Done entries within the same goal date. Rest and unreported days remain different from completion.

The goal keeps the creator’s time zone from when it was created. If you live apart, agree on reporting times within that shared date. Choose a different arrangement if your plan needs separate weekly schedules, a supplied partner, live calls, or a coach who replies to each update.

To start, agree on one daily completion rule, create the goal, and send your invitation. Our guide to setting up a shared daily habit shows the goal and check-in forms. If that record fits what you both want, download DuoKeep for your phones.

HabitShare: separate habits with selected friends

HabitShare fits people who want to share their own habits. Its official page lists daily and weekly habits, free iOS and Android apps, and control over which habits each friend can see. Habits are private by default.

You could share your reading habit while your friend shares language practice, with each following their own schedule. Install the app, create your habits, add your friend, and choose the sharing settings. Check that the intended person can see the intended habit before relying on the record.

If you are choosing mainly between shared habit trackers, use our detailed shared-tracker comparison for the differences in shared goals, rest days, and two-person costs.

Supporti: a matched buddy for daily check-ins

Supporti fits someone who wants a daily reporting partner but does not already have one. Its official FAQ describes choosing your own daily action, receiving a buddy for seven days, and reporting and chatting each day. At the end, both people rate the support and can continue or request another match.

Download the app and set your profile and daily action before requesting a match. The buddy commitments require a first message within 24 hours and at least one message daily. This includes encouraging your buddy, whose action can differ from yours.

Choose a subscription plan for your first match. To avoid a charge, the FAQ says to cancel at least 24 hours before the billing cycle ends. After the standard trial, new matches and future daily tracking require an active subscription. Confirm that your reporting and reply expectations fit before joining.

Focusmate: a person present while you work

Focusmate fits someone who wants company during a scheduled work block. You book a 25-, 50-, or 75-minute session, meet a matched person on video, state your task, work quietly, and report what you completed at the end. Its getting-started guide explains booking and joining.

You can study different subjects or work on unrelated tasks. The other person is there to work alongside you, rather than tutor you or review your output. Choose a time when you can be present for the booked session and have a working camera and microphone.

The free plan allows three sessions a week without a credit card. Unlimited Plus costs $12 monthly or $8 per month billed annually; taxes may apply. Each person’s plan is separate. The FAQ describes a web service rather than a native mobile app, though it can be added to a phone’s home screen.

Choose another format if you want a brief update at the end of the day without setting aside a video work block. A completed session and a daily habit report record different commitments.

GoalsWon: daily replies from a human coach

GoalsWon fits someone who wants a dedicated person to read their updates and help adjust their plan. Its official description explains coach matching, daily personalized check-ins, and feedback. The coach follows up if you do not reply; this is a paid service rather than mutual support exchanged with a friend.

Start through the official trial flow, choose a plan, and complete the matching questionnaire. The pricing page lists US$90 per month with a seven-day trial, or US$720 billed yearly with a 14-day trial. Both include daily chat check-ins and a monthly video call. The annual price works out to $60 per month, but is billed as $720.

The trial becomes a paid subscription unless canceled. Before joining, decide whether you need that ongoing reply and planning support. A friend seeing your habit status is a different level of service, even when both involve daily check-ins.

Decide what your partner needs to see

Agree on whether your arrangement requires a visible record, a message, or a reply. An app can display a completion without guaranteeing that someone read it or responded. Work out that expectation before choosing extra features or a subscription.

For a pair recording one page of reading daily in DuoKeep, the following is a possible agreement. The messages are examples you can adapt; they are not reports from a real user trial.

Each of us will read at least one page and record our own Done or Rest for the shared goal date. We will look at both records before our agreed evening check-in. If either of us wants a reply, we will send a message in our usual chat. One reminder is welcome only if requested.

  • After reading: record Done. If you want to talk, send “I read a page. How did your plan go?” in the chat you agreed to use.
  • On a rest day: record Rest. You might add context, then discuss any change you want to make to tomorrow’s plan.
  • When your partner has not reported: leave their entry unreported. If they agreed to a reminder, ask whether they completed the action or want a rest day; do not record it for them.

Use a live session if the missing part is a person present during the work. Use a matched buddy if the missing part is someone to exchange updates with. Consider coaching when you want someone responsible for giving regular feedback. If neither person wants another app, the same agreement can begin in a shared note and your usual chat.

Questions before choosing an app

Can a free app find me a partner?

Focusmate’s free allowance includes matched work sessions. DuoKeep and HabitShare require a person you bring yourself. For an ongoing partner, our partner-finding guide covers friends, public requests, matching conditions, and invitation examples.

Do we need the same goal?

A DuoKeep pair shares one goal, with each person completing their own action. HabitShare supports each person’s own habits, while matched buddies or work-session partners can focus on different tasks. Choose the record that fits your agreement instead of forcing unrelated goals into one completion rule.

Will an app check that I really did the action?

DuoKeep records what you report; it does not measure the reading or automatically verify it. A person on a work call or reading a chat update also does not necessarily review your output. If you need evidence or feedback, agree on what you will share and choose a service that explicitly supports it.

Sources and comparison method

We used the official product, pricing, FAQ, and setup pages linked beside each option, plus DuoKeep’s Android listing. Store descriptions and other providers’ public pages were checked October 8, 2026; DuoKeep’s shared-date and streak rules were checked against its implementation on October 6. We did not test match quality, coaching outcomes, or all five services on devices.

MYOHO Group LLC develops DuoKeep, so this is a developer comparison. Our editorial policy explains how we use product sources and illustrative examples.

If you already have a willing partner and want to record one daily action together, start with DuoKeep’s free goal per pair. Agree on the completion rule and the kind of follow-up you both want before sending the invitation.
